Delaware Insurance Continuing Education Requirements

Details

  • Producers

    • Resident

      • Complete a minimum of 24 continuing education (CE) credit hours during each license term by the last day of February of even numbered years. Licensees must also complete 3 hours of ethics CE training every license term as a part of the requirements.

    • Non-Resident

      • Does not need to complete continuing education credits in Delaware.

  • Adjusters and Public Adjusters

    • Resident

      • Complete a minimum of 12 continuing education (CE) credit hours during each license term by the last day of February of even numbered years. Licensees must also complete 3 hours of ethics CE training every license term as a part of the requirements.

    • Non-Resident

      • Complete a minimum of 12 continuing education (CE) credit hours during each license term by February of every odd numbered years. Licensees must also complete 3 hours of ethics CE training every license term as a part of the requirements.

    • Crop Insurance Adjusters

      • Complete a minimum of 24 continuing education (CE) credit hours during each license term. Licensees must also complete 3 hours of ethics CE training every license term as a part of the requirements.

    • Licensed for 25+ years or holds a professional designation (CPCU, CHFC, CFP, AAI, CLU, CEBS, FLMI, FSPA, CIC, RHU)

      • Complete a minimum of 6 continuing education (CE) credit hours during each license term. Licensees must also complete 3 hours of ethics CE training every license term as a part of the requirements.

  • Ethics Training

    • All producers must complete at least a 3-hour credit training course approved by the Delaware Department of Insurance.

  • Annuity Training

    • A producer who engages in the sale of annuity products shall complete a one-time 4-hour continuing education units (CEU) training course approved by the Delaware Department of Insurance.

  • Long Term Care Training

    • A producer who engages in the sale of Long Term Care products shall complete at least a 3-hour credit long term care training course approved by the Delaware Department of Insurance.

  • Flood Insurance Training

    • Insurance producers who sell flood insurance must complete at least a one-time, 2-hour credit training course on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

  • The following license types are exempt from completing the Continuing Education requirement:

    • Limited Lines Producers writing consumer credit, title, crop/hail, surety and car rental insurance.

    • Resident Adjusters licensed solely for surety and/or marine and transportation.

    • Limited lines producers licensed under 18 Del. C. §1707(b)(2) for life insurance or annuity products used solely to fund a pre-need arranged funeral program.

  • Non-Resident

    • All non-resident licensees are exempt from continuing education requirements except for non-resident adjusters and non-resident public adjusters.

  • Newly licensed individuals

    • No continuing education requirement shall apply during the biennium in which such individuals are licensed.

  • The Delaware Department of Insurance (DDOI) issues insurance licenses for two-year terms. The license term begins on March 1st and ends on the last day of February.

  • FastrackCE courses are categorized as online self-directed or self-study.

  • The Final Exam is open book and does not require a monitor/proctor. You may refer to the Course Material as often as you need to complete the exam.

  • You must receive a score of 70% or better to pass the exam.

  • You will be given the opportunity to retake the exam if a passing score is not received.

Certificates of completion are available immediately after passing your exam by logging into your account and navigating to your Course History.

FastrackCE reports your credits the next business day except holidays to SBS (State Based Systems). The state recognizes the date you passed/completed the exam as the date of completion. It is not based upon the day we report the hours to them.

Courses can only be repeated for continuing education credit if the completion dates are in a different license term.

  • In Delaware, excess continuing education (CE) credit hours can be carried over to the next renewal period, up to a maximum of 5 hours. However, ethics, annuity, or LTC courses are only carried over as general credit.
